Using Making Tax Digital software alongside your accountant
MTD doesn’t mean dropping your accountant. Here is how tidy digital records make their job easier — and yours cheaper.

Making Tax Digital doesn’t mean going it alone. Quarterwise is designed to work alongside an accountant, not replace one. Keeping tidy digital records through the year makes year end quicker — and an accountant’s time is the expensive part.
How it works in practice
- You record rent and expenses as you go, so nothing is reconstructed from a shoebox in January.
- Your figures are always current, ready for each quarterly update.
- You can export everything as a PDF or spreadsheet to hand to your accountant for review or advice.
Who does what
You keep the books; your accountant does what they’re best at — checking the position, advising on allowances and planning, and handling anything complex. Clean, year-round records mean fewer hours of tidying-up billed back to you.
Will my accountant need access?
For now you simply export your records and share them. Direct agent access — where your accountant files on your behalf from their own account — is on our roadmap and built into how Quarterwise is designed, so it can be added without you changing anything.
Want to start tidy and cheap? Quarterwise is free for a single property, and you can hand the records to your accountant whenever you like.
Common questions
Can I use Quarterwise if I already have an accountant?
Can I export my records for my accountant?
Does my accountant need their own login?
